When and How to Take It

General considerations to keep in mind when taking this drug include the following:
  • The medication comes in tablet form and is taken by mouth four times a day.
  • Zileuton can be taken with or without food. If the drug bothers your stomach, try taking it with food.
  • Zileuton should be taken at the same times each day to maintain an even level in your blood.
  • For zileuton to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. It will not work if you stop taking it.

Dosage Information

The dosage that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your zileuton dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What If I Take an Overdose?

Because there have been very few cases of overdoses with zileuton, it is not known exactly what to expect from an overdose. If you happen to overdose on the drug, seek immediate medical attention.
