Drug Interactions With Zileuton
Medications that may cause drug interactions with zileuton include theophylline, warfarin, and propranolol. Combining these medicines with Zileuton can increase the level of the drugs in your blood, which increases your risk for side effects. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking to minimize the chances of developing potentially dangerous zileuton drug interactions.
Zileuton (Zyflo®) can potentially interact with some other medicines. Some of the medications that may lead to drug interactions with zileuton include:
- Propranolol (Inderal®, Inderal LA®, InnoPran XL®, Pronol®)
- Theophylline (Theo-Dur®)
- Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when zileuton is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Taking propranolol with zileuton can increase the level of propranolol in your blood, increasing your risk of propranolol side effects. Your healthcare provider should monitor your heart rate and blood pressure, and decrease your propranolol dose, if necessary, to prevent this interaction from occurring.
