Zileuton CR belongs to a group of medications known as leukotriene synthesis inhibitors. Leukotrienes are chemicals produced by the body in response to allergens. These chemicals cause swelling and inflammation in the airways of the lungs and constrict the muscles of the respiratory tract.
Zileuton CR works by inhibiting the production of leukotrienes, which prevents the chemicals from causing asthma symptoms.
Zileuton CR Use in Children
Zileuton CR is approved for treating asthma in children as young as 12 years old. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using zileuton CR in children.
Off-Label Zileuton CR Uses
On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend zileuton CR for something other than preventing asthma attacks. At this time, using zileuton CR to treat allergies is considered to be an off-label zileuton CR use.
