Tobi Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when any of the drugs mentioned above are combined with Tobi.
 
Amphotericin B
Using Tobi with amphotericin B could increase your risk for kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use these medicines together.  
 
Bisphosphonates
Combining Tobi with a bisphosphonate could lead to low blood calcium levels (hypocalcemia). If you use these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you for this potential side effect.
 
Carboplatin
Both Tobi and carboplatin can cause inner ear damage, and combining these medicines could increase the risk for this side effect. Talk to your healthcare provider before using these medicines together.
 
Cephalosporin Antibiotics
Combining Tobi with a cephalosporin could increase the risk for kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use these medicines together.  
 
Cisplatin
Combining Tobi with cisplatin could increase the risk for kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use these medicines together.  
 
Colistimethate
Combining Tobi with a colistimethate could increase your risk for certain side effects, including kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you use these medicines together.  
 
Cyclosporine
Combining Tobi with cyclosporine could increase your risk for kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use these medicines together.  
 
Gallium Nitrate
Combining Tobi with gallium nitrate could increase the risk for kidney problems. It is recommended that these medicines not be used together if at all possible. If you need to take both gallium nitrate and Tobi, your healthcare provider will closely monitor your kidney function using blood and urine tests.
 
Loop Diuretics
Taking loop diuretics with Tobi could increase the chance that you will experience Tobi side effects, including kidney and ear problems. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. He or she may want to monitor you more closely for potential Tobi side effects.
 
Mannitol
According to the manufacturer of Tobi, it should not be used in combination with mannitol, as using these medications together could increase the risk for Tobi side effects.
 
Neuromuscular-Blocking Medications
Combining Tobi with neuromuscular-blocking medicines could increase your risk for serious side effects, including abnormally slow and shallow breathing. Your healthcare provider will monitor you more closely if you use these medicines together.
 
NSAIDs
Combining Tobi with an NSAID may increase the risk for kidney problems. This interaction appears to mainly be a concern in premature infants. However, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use Tobi with an NSAID, just to be safe.  
 
Other Aminoglycoside Antibiotics
If you use Tobi with other aminoglycoside antibiotics, you may have a higher risk for side effects, and may need to be monitored more closely.
 
Vancomycin
Combining Tobi with vancomycin could increase the risk for kidney problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your kidney function more closely using blood and urine tests if you use these medicines together.
