Sirturo Drug Interactions
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when any of the drugs mentioned above are combined with Sirturo.
Drinking alcohol during Sirturo treatment can increase your risk for liver damage. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this drug.
CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Sirturo using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Sirturo with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Sirturo in your body, possibly making it less effective. In most cases, these medications should not be used together.
CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Sirturo using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes, and medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Sirturo with one of these drugs may increase the level of Sirturo in your body, potentially increasing your risk for side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before taking these medications together. If he or she determines it is okay, you may need to be monitored more closely.
Sirturo can cause a potentially dangerous change in the heart rhythm known as QT prolongation. Taking it in combination with other medications that can cause QT prolongation may increase the risk for this problem. In many cases, it is safest to not use these medications together. If they must be used together, your healthcare provider may choose to closely monitor your heart rhythm with an electrocardiogram (ECG).
