Revatio for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)
Available only by prescription, Revatio® (sildenafil citrate) is a medication used to improve the ability to exercise and to slow down worsening conditions in adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Revatio comes in tablet or intravenous injectable form and is taken three times daily, with approximately four to six hours between doses.
Although it is not a cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension, Revatio can help to slow down worsening conditions that lead to negative outcomes of the disease, such as lung transplants, the need for additional medications, or even loss of life.
Revatio belongs to a group of medications called phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) inhibitors, and works by causing the blood vessels in the lungs to relax in order to improve blood flow.
