Adverse Effects of Nicotine Chewing Gum

While most people do not experience any problems while chewing nicotine gum (Nicorette® Gum), certain adverse effects can occur while using this medicine. Side effects, for example, are possible and include:

  • Hiccups
  • Belching
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Nausea.

In most cases, reactions to this medication tend to be mild and easy to treat. However, contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience more serious problems, such as vomiting, difficulty breathing, or a severe jaw ache.

To help minimize your risk of these and other adverse effects with nicotine chewing gum, make sure your healthcare provider has a complete list of all medications you are taking, as well as a complete medical history. By providing your healthcare provider with this information, he or she can be sure this is the right medication for you.
