Lungs Home > Zyban Sexual Side Effects

Some people may experience side effects while taking Zyban. Sexual side effects, although rare, are among these side effects that have been reported with Zyban. Sexual side effects with Zyban can include ejaculation problems, impotence, and a decreased sex drive. In previous studies, between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people who took Zyban experienced impotence or a decreased sex drive. If you are taking Zyban and sexual side effects occur, your healthcare provider may recommend a different medication for smoking cessation, among other things.

Zyban Sexual Side Effects: An Overview

In rare cases, Zyban® (bupropion SR) may cause sexual side effects, including:
  • A decreased sex drive
  • Impotence
  • Ejaculation problems.
Zyban and Sex Drive
In previous clinical studies documenting the side effects of Zyban, a decreased sex drive (libido) affected between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people who took the drug, though the exact percentage was not reported.
Zyban and Impotence
Impotence is usually defined as a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection that is firm enough for sexual intercourse. Impotence is also known as erectile dysfunction (or ED for short).
In previous studies, impotence affected between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 men who took Zyban.
Zyban and Ejaculation Problems
Although ejaculation problems have been reported in men taking Zyban, they are not common (the exact percentage has not been reported). Problems of this nature can include delayed ejaculation or even the complete inability to ejaculate.
