Lungs Home > What Is the Highest Dose of Nicotine Gum in a 24-Hour Period?

Your initial dose of nicotine gum (Nicorette® Gum) will be based on how many cigarettes you smoke in a day. However, it is possible to use too much of this product, which may result in a nicotine overdose. So what is the highest dose of nicotine gum you can safely use in a 24-hour period?

There are two available strengths of this medicine (2 mg and 4 mg). If you smoke at least 25 cigarettes a day, you should use the 4-mg strength. When starting treatment with this product, you can chew one piece of gum every one to two hours. However, do not chew more than 24 pieces of gum in one day. Over the 12-week treatment plan, the amount of gum you chew each day is slowly decreased to help limit nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
