Lungs Home > Zyban to Quit Smoking

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has licensed Zyban® (bupropion SR) to help people quit smoking. It can be used alone or in combination with nicotine patches and gum. Zyban helps to block the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine so that more of each chemical remains in the space between the brain's nerve cells. It is thought that this action helps people to be more successful at quitting smoking.
