If you are not successful at quitting smoking with Chantix, alternatives are available. Nicotine replacement medications and other medications are common alternatives. Many forms of counseling are also available that can help people stop smoking (even those who are taking a smoking cessation medicine). Chantix alternatives are often considered if bothersome side effects occur or if the medication is not working as well as intended.

Nicotine replacement therapy can be effective, but can be dangerous for people with heart problems. Talk to your healthcare provider before using a nicotine replacement product. You should not use these products while you are still smoking.
