The manufacturer of Adcirca (tadalafil) recommends that women use the medication with caution while nursing a child. Although this drug does pass through breast milk in rats, it is not known whether it passes through human breast milk. Before taking Adcirca, breastfeeding women should talk to their healthcare providers about any potential risks.
Can Women Take Adcirca While Breastfeeding? At this time, it is unknown if Adcirca™ (tadalafil) passes through breast milk. The manufacturer recommends that Adcirca be used with caution in women who are nursing. If you are breastfeeding, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Adcirca.
More Information on Breastfeeding and AdcircaAnimal studies have shown that Adcirca does pass through the breast milk of mother rats. However, this does not mean that it will pass through human breast milk. Animals do not always respond to medications in the same way that humans do.
No research has been done to see if Adcirca passes through human breast milk. Although this lack of information is certainly frustrating, it is important to understand that studies of medications are rarely done in breastfeeding women, as this would usually expose an infant (who will not directly benefit from the medication) to possible risks.
