Tobramycin Inhalation Powder Information

Healthcare providers may prescribe tobramycin inhalation powder (Tobi® PodhalerTM) to treat a certain bacterial infection in people who have cystic fibrosis. Specifically, this prescription antibiotic is approved to treat infections caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is approved for use in adults and children as young as six years old.

Although most people who use this medicine tolerate it fairly well, side effects are possible. Some of the potential side effects include fever, a sore throat, and a worsening cough. Fortunately, most reactions to the drug tend to be mild and easy to treat.

While this antibiotic can be effective at treating this bacterial infection, tobramycin inhalation powder is not the best choice for some people. Information on your medical history should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to reduce your risk for certain complications. This includes warnings for people who have kidney disease, hearing problems, or women who are pregnant or nursing.
