Sirturo Medication Information

SirturoTM (bedaquiline) is approved for the treatment of tuberculosis in adults. Because this medication is associated with dangerous complications, such as liver damage and heart rhythm problems, it should only be prescribed when other treatments are not an option.

Sirturo works by blocking an enzyme the bacteria need to survive and replicate. Dosing information for this product calls for taking it once daily for two weeks and then three times a week for 22 more weeks.

Although most people tolerate Sirturo well, it is possible to develop side effects with this medication. Some of the most common reactions include nausea, headaches, and joint pain.
