Nicotine Gum Drug Information
People who want to quit smoking may benefit from nicotine gum (Nicorette® Gum). This gum is chewed every one to eight hours for 12 weeks, and releases a small amount of nicotine as it is chewed. This helps reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms and helps gradually wean you off nicotine. It is available without a prescription and is approved for use in people over the age of 18.
Although most people are able to use this medicine without any problems, side effects are possible and may include things like hiccups, nausea, and heartburn. Nicotine Gum is not for everyone, so it's a good idea to review the drug's safety information with your healthcare provider before starting treatment. If you have medical conditions such as diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, or are taking any other medications, let your healthcare provider know before using this medication.
