Ciclesonide Inhaler Drug Information
The ciclesonide inhaler (Alvesco®) is used every day to prevent asthma attacks. Because the drug is inhaled directly into the lungs, the rest of the body is exposed to lower steroid levels, compared to steroids taken by mouth. The medicine comes in the form of a metered-dose inhaler that is used twice a day. At this time, the medication is not available in generic form.
Some of the most common side effects seen with the ciclesonide inhaler include:
- Irritation of the nose and throat
- Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold).
Keep in mind that this product is approved to help prevent asthma attacks -- not to treat them. If you use the ciclesonide inhaler, you should always have a "rescue medication" available in case of emergencies.
