Aztreonam for Inhalation Solution Information

As a type of antibiotic, aztreonam for inhalation solution (Cayston®) is prescribed to treat a bacterial infection in those who have cystic fibrosis. It is approved for adults and children as young as seven years old, and is used when the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in the lungs.
 
This medicine comes in the form of a powder, which is dissolved in liquid and inhaled using a nebulizer. It is used three times daily for 28 days, followed by a 28-day break. After this break, the medicine is again taken for 28 days. Your healthcare provider will let you know how many cycles you need.
 
If your healthcare provider recommends treatment with aztreonam for inhalation solution, he or she will need information on your medical history and any other medications, vitamins, or supplements you are using. Side effects are possible and include coughing, a stuffy nose, and a sore throat. You should also talk to your healthcare provider before beginning treatment if you are pregnant or have any allergies.
