Atrovent Inhalation Solution Side Effects: An Introduction
As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with
Atrovent® inhalation solution (
ipratropium bromide inhalation solution). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Atrovent Inhalation Solution Side Effects
Atrovent inhalation solution has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common side effects of Atrovent inhalation solution included:
- Bronchitis -- in up to 14.6 percent of people
- Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- up to 13.2 percent
- Difficulty breathing -- up to 9.6 percent
- Headaches -- up to 6.4 percent.
Other common Atrovent inhalation solution side effects (occurring in 1 to 5 percent of people) included:
- Pain
- Flu-like symptoms (such as a fever, chills, or body aches)
- Back pain
- Chest pain
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Nausea
- Coughing
- A sore throat
- A runny or stuffy nose
- Sinus infections.
