About Lungs
The lungs are part of the respiratory system and, as such, provide for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the environment. Lung tissue looks something like a pink sponge that is filled with tiny holes. Each one of these holes is surrounded by a network of tiny blood vessels. Healthy lungs perform their function quite well; when affected by disease or illnesses, however, the lungs no longer function properly, and wheezing or trouble breathing may result.
