Welcome to the Lungs Channel
The lungs are part of the respiratory system and, as such, provide for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the environment. Lung tissue looks something like a pink sponge that is filled with tiny holes. Each one of these holes is surrounded by a network of tiny blood vessels. Healthy lungs perform their function quite well; when affected by disease or illnesses, however, the lungs no longer function properly, and wheezing or trouble breathing may result.
Welcome to the Lungs Health Channel by eMedTV. This channel on the eMedTV Web site provides hundreds of articles on the lungs -- from an in-depth understanding of lung anatomy to conditions that affect lung function. These articles discuss common diseases that can affect the lungs, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary embolism, as well as medications used to treat these conditions.
Many people begin their eMedTV lungs experience by clicking one of the featured links located on this page. You can also start with the health topic section on the left side to find a particular topic of interest. If you do not find the specific lung-related information that you are looking for in these two locations, use the search box at the top of this page.
